Windows Vista Web Filter

Introduction

The Parental Controls web filter rates the content of websites, and it can block some websites based on the content categories you decide are objectionable. Turning on the web filter should significantly reduce the number of objectionable websites your children might view.

Turn the Web Filter On

Note: Before you can turn on Web Filtering for a user account that account needs to have Parental Controls turned on. Learn how to turn on Parental Controls with the [1] Turn Parental Controls on in Windows Vista guide.

  1. Open the Start Menu and click Control Panel.
  2. Open Parental Controls.
  3. Select the user you want to turn the web filter on.
  4. Click Windows Vista Web Filter.

  5. Check off Block some websites or content to turn the web filter on.

Set the Web Filters Protection Level

Allow and block specific websites

  1. Click Edit the allow and block list.

  2. Cut and past or type the address of the website you want to allow or block in the Website address box.

  3. Click the Allow or Block button.
  4. You can set to only allow access to websites on the allow list by checking off Only allow websites which are on the allow list.

Block web content automatically

The web filter can automatically block websites for you. All you have to do is set the level of protection under Choose a web restriction level.

If you don’t want the user downloading files check off block file downloads.
