Show File Extensions

Introduction

This guide shows you how to set Windows Vista to show it’s file’s extensions after their names.

For example: A jpeg photo named Brent will show up as Brent.jpg with extensions being shown.

Show File Extensions

  1. Type Folder Options in the Start Menu’s Search Box and then click Folder Options in the search results.
  2. Click the View tab in the Folder Options window.
  3. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.

  4. Click OK to save the changes.

Warning: Be careful not to erase the file extension when renaming a file.
