Introduction

This guide shows you how to share your WMP library with other people who logon your computer and/or with people who have access to a shared public folder on your computer.

Share WMP Library with People on Your Computer

If you have other people with separate accounts on your computer and you want to share your Windows Media Player library with them you can easily do so by moving your library to the music folder in the public user account on your Windows Vista PC. The public user account gives anyone logged on to your computer access to files saved in it. It can also easily be shared with other computers across a network.

Copy your current library from C:\Users\YourUserAccount\Music to C:\Users\Public\Music.

Next you need to change where WMP saves ripped CDs for now on from C:\Users\YourUserAccount\Music to C:\Users\Public\Music. If you need help with this see my guide on [1] changing the ripped CDs location.

Share WMP Library with People across a Network

The person accessing your shared library across a network will need to add a new monitored folder in their Windows Media Player settings. If you need help with adding monitored folders see [3] this guide.

Remember that your computer needs to always be turned on in order for other people to have access to your library across a network.
