How-to save a little hard drive space with NTFS compression in Windows Vista.
Introduction
You can save a little hard drive space by setting folders to be compressed using NTFS compression. Once they are compressed your computer uncompresses the files on-the-fly when they are being used and recompresses them when finished with.
Compress a Folder with NTFS Compression
- Right-click the folder you want compressed and click Properties.
- Click Advanced.
- Check off Compress contents to save disk space and click OK.
- Click OK in the Document Properties box. You’ll be asked if you want to compress the files and folder within the folder you’re compressing. Make your choice and click OK.
Your computer will now compress the contents of the folder.
