Learn how to revert back to a previous restore point in Windows Vista.

Introduction

This guide shows you how to revert back to a previous restore point in Windows Vista. This is very useful if software or drivers you’ve just installed cause problems with your computer. Windows Vista always creates a restore point before it installs software, updates, or drivers.

Note: System Restore doesn’t backup your personal files. It only backs up system files.

Revert to a System Restore Point

  1. Insert your Windows Vista DVD and restart your computer.
  2. Press any key to boot to the DVD when asked.
  3. Select your language and then click Next.

  4. Click Repair your computer.

  5. Select the operating system you want to revert to a previous restore point and the click Next.

  6. Click System Restore.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select which restore point you want to go back to and then click Next.

  9. Click Next in the confirm disks to restore window.

  10. Click Finish to confirm your restore point.

  11. Click Yes in the warning window and the restore will begin.

    Restoring a system restore point can take a while. Make sure you don’t turn your computer off during the restore.

  12. When it’s finished a window will appear telling you the restore was successful. Click Restart to finish the restore.
