This guide shows you how to add, remove, move, sort, and resize columns in your Windows Media music library.
Introduction
This guide shows you how to personalize the columns in Windows Media Player’s music library to your needs.
Add, Remove, and Moving Columns
To add, remove, or move a column you need to open the columns properties window.
- To open the columns properties window open Windows Media Player.
- Click the Library tab to show your music library.
- Right-click on any of the column headers and select Choose Columns.
Hint: Right-click where it says Title at the very top of the list of albums in your music library.
Now that the Choose Columns options window is open let’s start customizing things.
Add or Removing Columns
Simply check each column type you want to appear and uncheck any you don’t want to appear in the music library.
Moving Columns
To move a column, select it and then click the Move Up or Move Down buttons. You can also move columns by dragging the column header to the new location in your library.

You can remove the album art and compact the columns to show more detail by clicking the down arrow just to the left of the search box in the top right of WMP and selecting Details.
Resize and Sorting Columns
Resizing Columns
Columns can be resized by pointing at the far right of the column header (for example: the line that borders the right side of Title) and clicking the left mouse button and while holding down the left mouse button move the mouse left or right to expand or shrink the column width.
Sorting Columns
To sort your library by a particular column right-click the column header and select Sort by ‘Column Name’.
