Introduction

When you browse to a computer or website that requires a logon to access it Windows Vista can save the user name and password so that you don’t have to enter it every time you visit the computer or website.

This guide shows you how to manage stored user names and passwords in Windows Vista.

Manually Add a Stored User Name and Password

1. Open the Control Panel and then open User Accounts.
2. Click Manage your network passwords in the top left.
3. Click Add.

4. Type the website or server location in the Log on to box.

5. Type your user name and password for this logon.
6. Set whether this is a website or computer you’re logging into and then click OK.

Remove a Stored User Name and Password

1. Open the Control Panel and then open User Accounts.
2. Click Manage your network passwords in the top left.
3. Select the account you want to remove and then click Remove.

Backup Stored User Names and Passwords

1. Open the Control Panel and then open User Accounts.
2. Click Manage your network passwords in the top left.
3. Click Backup.

4. Click Browse and browse to the location you want to save the backup.

   Once you browse to the location where you want to save the backup give it a name and click save.

5. Now you need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del on your keyboard to enter a secure location and save the file.

6. Once you are in the secure location you’ll be asked to password protect the backup file.

Restore a Backup of Stored User Names and Passwords

1. Open the Control Panel and then open User Accounts.
2. Click Manage your network passwords in the top left.
3. Click Restore.

4. Click Browse and browse to the location of the backed up user Names and passwords.

5. Now you need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to enter a secure location to recover the User Names and Passwords.

6. Type the password to unlock and restore the User Names and Passwords.
