Connect Using Remote Assistance

1. Open the [1] Remote Assistance invitation file sent to you.
2. Enter the password set by the person who created the Remote Assistance invitation file and then click OK to connect.

3. Have the person on the remote computer click Yes to the prompt that pops up asking if they should allow you to connect to their computer using Remote Assistance.

4. Once the user on the remote computer accepts your request to connect to their computer you’ll see their desktop.

5. If you’d like to take control of their desktop (use their mouse and keyboard from your computer) click Request control at the top of the Remote Assistance window.
6. The user on the remote computer will have to accept this request before you can take control.

   Note: If you’ll be changing settings and expect UAC prompts the remote user should check off Allow YOUR USER NAME to respond to User Account Control prompts before letting you take control of their desktop.

When you’re ready to disconnect, click Disconnect at the top of the Remote Assistance window.

Troubleshooting Remote Assistance

If you’re having trouble connecting to a remote computer with Remote Assistance, here a few pointers that might help:

• Waiting for incoming connection: Make sure the computer you’re trying to connect to still has the Waiting for incoming connection window open. If it has been closed they’ll have to [1] create a new invitation.
• Check your firewall: Remote Assistance might be blocked in the firewall of one or both computers. If you’re using the firewall included with Windows Vista [6] here’s how to unblock Remote Assistance. If you’re using a 3rd party firewall you need to unblock port 3389 for Remote Assistance to work.
• NAT: Make sure the NAT protocol is allowed and working on your network and the person you’re trying to remote to network.
