Change the Windows Vista Search Index Location

Introduction
Windows Vista’s search engine keeps an index of files for fast advanced searching. If you have a fast spare hard drive and you have a huge search index you can speed up searching a bit by moving the search index to the faster hard drive.
Change the Vista Search Index Location
- Type index in the search box on the Start Menu.
- Click Indexing Options in the search results.
- Click Advanced.

- Click Select new.

- Browse to the new location of the search index using the arrows to the left of the folders.

Click OK when you’re done.
- Restart your computer.
